Hurricane Kayaks

Hurricane Logo

Hurricane kayaks are made differently. They use Trylon and a unique thermoforming process to produce kayaks that perform and look like composites at a fraction of the cost. Now that the Hurricanes have arrived, the days of paying big bucks for a beautiful high performance kayak are over. In addition to being light on your wallet, Hurricane kayaks are just plain light . . . period. Their boats weigh 10-15 pounds less than comparable boats in the same category and a lighter boat means less hassle getting it to the water, more efficient paddling, and more fun.

Hurricane Santee 100 LT

Santee 100 LT

We think a recreational kayak should be gorgeous, well-designed, and fun. So we put in the effort to design recreational kayaks that are light, stable and comfortable — all of the things that make getting on the water easy, worry-free, and (most importantly) fun. Want proof? Here’s the Santee 100LT. The Santee 100LT is the perfect entry-level boat or addition to your lake fleet. It weighs in at a feather-light 33.5 pounds, so making the trek from your racks to the shore is easy. We recently redesigned the 100LT to give you five extra inches in the cockpit, plus we added our new Airestream fully adjustable seat. Translation? Maximum comfort. With an integral paddle holder and a stable overall structure, the Santee 100LT is indeed all fun, all the time.

Hurricane Santee 116

Maybe your right arm is stronger than your left; maybe your body tilts east when you really wanna go west; or maybe your personal gyroscope hasn’t worked since the Clinton administration. Whatever the case, the inability to paddle your recreational kayak in a straight line makes your experience on the water, well, challenging. Not to worry. We solved the problem with the Santee 116, a rec kayak that’s easy to paddle in a straight line! The Swede form design makes it simple (and fun and rewarding and spirit-lifting) to get from point A to point B . . . without wandering to all points in-between. You can toss enough gear in the ample hatches for a serious daytrip, hit a river or lake or coastal inlet, and cut a smooth steady trail across the water. As a bonus, you won’t tear a rotator cuff putting the 116 on your roof rack because it tips the scales at a svelte 38 pounds. (Spoiler alert ? the Santee 116 won’t fight you when you paddle. It’ll work with you, so you’ll end up having a blast.)

Hurricane Santee 116 Sport

Santee 116 Sport

When you’ve got the best in-class recreational kayak, what do you do next? You think about how to make that design accessible to more people. Recreational means a lot of different things to different paddlers. For some folks, recreational means accessories, and accessories require space, so we took the Santee 116 and upsized it. We put some serious cubic inches in the cockpit and voila ? the Santee 116 Sport! A recreational kayak that gives you room for tackle boxes, rod tubes, dry bags and perhaps the family dog ? appropriately clad in a doggie PFD of course. In addition to the extra space in the cockpit, the Santee 116 Sport also features sealed bulkheads (both forward and aft), and at 36.5 pounds, you aren’t sacrificing performance for extra space. Why? Because the 116 Sport rides on the same magic Swede form hull as the 116.

Hurricane Santee 126

Santee 126

When we designed the Santee 126, we didn’t set out to redefine recreational kayaks. Our goal was to redefine the recreational category. In other words, we wanted to bring a new standard to what rec paddlers could expect on the water, and with the Santee 126 we accomplished the mission. This boat glides and tracks like no other, so fun becomes effortless and instantaneous. If you wanna get a little aggressive, the 126’s multi-chined hull gives you the ability to carve some tight turns, and with the fully adjustable seat system, your rear end and lower back won’t bark at you after a full day on the water. There’s even a paddle holder and rear deck security bar. Speaking of bars, we raised the bar for the recreational category with the Santee 126.

Sport Okay, this is a recreational boat, and at Hurricane, we don’t take the word “recreational” lightly. This recreational kayak ups the ante on the industry-changing Santee 126 by adding an oversized cockpit, and it does so without sacrificing one iota of performance. In other words, you can still track like you’re on rails, still carve turns, still have more fun than should be legal in most states. The 126 Sport gives you room for fishing gear, photography equipment, and camping gear too ? whatever you need. The cockpit is a spacious 55 x 24 inches, and 55 x 24 = a whole lot of comfort.

Hurricane Santee 135

Santee 135

There are people who think “high performance recreational kayak” is an industry oxymoron and believe you have to leave your adrenaline at the shoreline when you paddle a rec boat. We have a special word for them and a number ? Santee 135. This boat bumps the needle way up on the performance meter. It’s super lightweight, tracks like the proverbial dream (as well as boats 2-3 feet longer), and it gives you an efficient, stable, fun experience on the water. We improved the deck lines for added style and stiffness, and we kept the price point at a place you’ll appreciate. You’ll be doing some serious recreating in the Santee 135. You’ll also be smiling . . . a lot.

Hurricane Santee 140 T

Santee 140 T

So you want a tandem kayak, which means you want an extra seat to share the experience, but you’d rather not paddle a polyethylene barge. That’s why we designed the Santee 140T ? a tandem kayak with a solo soul and lightweight attitude. It cuts through the water with stability and performance, and with our unique Trylon construction, it weighs in at a svelte 57 pounds, which means you won’t need a wench and pulleys to get it off your racks. There’s also a roomy hatch and some added cockpit space for your day-tripping gear, and you can adjust the front seat for solo paddling on those days when you want to travel alone.

Hurricane Skimmer 116

Skimmer 116

Okay, let’s just get it out there, the Skimmer 116 is a darn good looking sit on top. The lines split the difference between beautifully classic and cutting-edge modern with a finish so glossy you can see yourself in it. It’s a sit on top that begs to be put in the water, and when you get it there, the Skimmer 116 performs. With its touring style hull and refined scupper system, the Skimmer 116 skims across the water, cuts through waves, and slices through chop. Oh, and it weighs in at a slight 42 pounds, which raises the performance bar to a new level when you’re tossing this bad boy on your racks.

Skimmer 128

This industry-shaking sit on top was designed with two words in mind ? performance and lightweight. With its low seat-pan and intelligent outfitting, you become one with the boat and the water. You don’t just sit on it, you paddle it, and with a touring style hull and lightweight Trylon construction, you glide across the surface. The Skimmer 128 features a generous bow hatch, a pair of day hatches, and an optional rudder, so it’s ready for just about any adventure you can imagine. Finally, a sit-on-top that offers performance and style in perfect balance. What will we dream up next?

Hurricane Tracer 165

Tracer 165

So you’ve been hypnotized by the concept of “composite?” You know, thinking that the only way to get a sleek, agile high-performance kayak is to drop a serious bundle on a composite boat. Wake up and meet the Tracer 165. The Tracer 165 paddles like it’s on proverbial rails, carving fast lines you’ve only dreamed about. This light stiff kayak transitions between inland lakes and coastal waters with ease, and with the subtle British-inspired rocker and moderate V hull, the Tracer 165 doesn’t so much float as dance on the surface. There’s storage fore and aft, plus boatloads of comfort in the cockpit, and you can even add a rudder for added handling. Full disclosure ? there’s only one thing the Tracer 165 doesn’t come with . . . a composite price tag. You’re welcome.
